Summer Favorites

Hey there! It’s been a while since my last post, hasn’t it? I’ve been pretty busy recently with both work and school, and it makes me miss the fun summer days a little bit. Since we’re officially approaching the end of the summer season, I thought I would share with you my summer favorites.

I was initially planning on sharing my favorites for each month, but with my Europe backpacking trip and other events, I wasn’t able to split it up for each month. Instead, I’ll be sharing with you the products that I enjoyed using throughout the entire summer—June, July, August, and a bit of September as well.

I have combination to oily skin, which only worsens with the hot summer months. Excess sebum makes me feel gross so an instant pick-me-up is a foam facial cleanser. The two main cleansers I used were from The Face Shop and Holika Holika.

The Face Shop’s charcoal foam cleanser is hands down my favorite facial cleanser of all time. I love the squeaky clean feeling this cleanser delivers. It feels as if my blackheads are pulled right out. You can probably tell why I love this cleanser, especially for the summer.

We all know that summer means sweat and sebum, but lately I’ve been loving the Holika Holika Pig-Clear Dust Out Deep Cleansing Foam. I’ve had my eye on this product for a few years now so I made sure to pick one up during my last trip to South Korea. Although my trip to Korea was a while back, I’ve only recently opened this up. And boy, am I glad I did. This foam cleanser leaves skin feeling clean and supple. It has a light floral scent (daffodils (my favorite flower) if I’m not mistaken). This might seem off-putting to those who aren’t into scented products, but honestly, the scent is so light that when I first used it, I thought there wasn’t any fragrance at all. The scent is great for a quick pick-me-up, and the cleanser doesn’t leave skin feeling stripped of moisture. The lather it gives is the richest I’ve ever experienced in a foam cleanser as well. I’ve been using it multiple times throughout the day every day, and it’s definitely become a staple!

I’ve also been using the Etude House Lovely Etti Hair Band in conjunction to The Face Shop and Holika Holika cleansers. Even though the intended purpose of this is to keep your hair out of your way when cleansing your face, I also use this when I’m not. It’s great for keeping those annoying baby hairs away from your face and neck during the sweltering summer season!

Another product I’ve enjoyed is from the brand Bliss. It is their Soapy Suds Body Wash+Bubbling Bath in the scent blood orange+white pepper. I originally intended to use this as a bubble bath since my bathroom in the Elk Grove house got a renovation, which means a new tub (you can see a peek of what the new bathroom looks like in the background of the picture)! I moved back to San Jose before I got a chance to use it for that purpose, but I did use it as a body wash. The scent is absolutely divine, and I think it would be perfect for winter as it has a hint of spice from the white pepper, but it was still great for use in the summertime!

I’ve also been enjoying taking instant pictures this summer. Last month, I purchased a second instant camera for bigger prints, but it definitely doesn’t replace the original mini Instax films. I’ve been using both Lomography’s Lomo’Instant Wide in the Portobello Road edition and Fujifilm’s Instax 25 camera. From Glass Beach to Hidden Falls to Paris and to London, I’ve taken this baby everywhere with me to capture my summer highlights.
