Skinfood Strawberry Black Sugar Mask Wash Off Review

Hello there! Today, I am back with another Face Mask Friday review for you all. The face mask we will be taking a look at is the Skinfood Strawberry Black Sugar Mask Wash Off. What it is is a scrub featuring strawberries and Brazilian black sugar. Skinfood is quite well known for their face masks that come in the pot container, so I am excited to share this review with you all. Shall we get started?

This is a product that I’ve used a few times previously as you can see from the picture below.

This multipurpose product is a combination of both a physical scrub and a face mask, so it’s great for those on a budget.

If you are not familiar with the skincare benefits of strawberries, the fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C and folic acid. Vitamin C plays a key role in the production of collagen, which keeps the skin youthful. Folic acid aids in the regeneration of skin cells. Strawberries also contain ellagic acid, an antioxidant that protects the skin from harmful UV rays, in turn reducing wrinkle formation. The acidic nature of strawberries are also great for whitening the skin and for removing sebum. My oily skinned girls and boys rejoice!

The other main ingredient is Brazilian black sugar, which is rich in minerals such as potassium, calcium, and iron. Black sugar also contains vitamin B, which helps to retain moisture in the skin. Shout out to my dry skinned peeps as well!

Now that we’ve unveiled the science behind the featured ingredients, let’s get into the test, shall we?

Here is my face pre-mask. I’ve already cleansed the skin using a foam cleanser and my trusty Forea Luna for combination skin.

The great thing about this mask, other than that it smells divine (like super sweet strawberry jam or candy), is that it is made out of sugar. You can dissolve the sugar with either water or toner so that it is not too abrasive on the skin. You can even go ahead and dissolve it completely if you don’t like physical exfoliators. The acids in the strawberry will serve as a chemical exfoliator, removing dead skin off your face without the harshness. Do be aware that there are strawberry seeds in the mask, so some physical exfoliation may occur.

I’ve spread the mask and gently scrubbed the skin after mixing it with water. The instructions say to leave the mask on for about ten to fifteen minutes after scrubbing and then wash off with warm water.

After rinsing off the mask, I noticed that my skin felt smoother yet had a balmy residue left on the skin. I think that may be due to the vitamin B, which aids in moisture retention. As I am typing this two hours later, my face still feels balmy but when I run my hands across, I don’t feel any oil transfer – even my nose! I also noticed that skin appeared to be brighter, and possibly lighter, than before.

All in all, I feel that this product is geared towards both oily and dry skin. Oily skin can benefit from the reduction of sebum, while dry skin can benefit from the exfoliation and moisture retention. Best of all, both can benefit from its anti-aging properties!
