Skinfood Propolis & Bee Venom Face Mask Review

Hello, everybody! Happy Face Mask Friday Sunday! On Twitter, I posted a few minutes before the time hit 12 A.M. the next day that I completely forgot it was Friday. Am I the only one who forgets what day of the week it is during summer break? Anyways, today’s mask is a special mask that I have been saving for a special occasion. It’s a face mask made of bee venom! How crazy is that? If you’d like to find out how it performed, please keep reading!

I said I was saving this face mask for a special occasion, but, to be honest, I don’t have a special occasion coming up. I have a few sheet masks that I have been saving, but I unfortunately went through all of the ones I wasn’t saving and ending up having to dig into my special stash. That’s okay though because my skin has been looking really rough lately, especially so with the four mosquito bites I have on my face. I’ve tried Skinfood’s Royal Honey Hydro Cream when I was in France last summer and one use left my skin baby soft, so I have high hopes for this sheet mask as it is also a bee-related product.

This face mask is from Skinfood’s Beauty in a Food Mask product line. I previously reviewed another product from this line which you can read here. This line of sheet masks features one ingredient (in this case, two but they are both from bees) in each of their masks. This mask contains propolis and bee venom. Propolis heals and balances out problematic skin, and bee venom tricks the skin into thinking that it has been stung, thus bringing more blood to the area, which promotes collagen production.

On the back of the packaging, there are instructions in English for those of you who can’t read Korean.

As per instructions, I cleansed by face with a soap bar and finished it off with some toner.

Here is my face freshly cleansed! As you may be able to tell, my skin is currently very splotchy. I have combination skin with dry patches near the mouth and lower cheek area. I normally just have oily skin, but these past few months have been quite bumpy in the skin department. I also have four mosquito bites on my face from a trip to Yosemite (posting travel blog pictures tomorrow!).

Can we talk about the cutout of this mask for a minute? This cutout is the best one I’ve seen so far! Upon applying it to my face, there is minimal overlapping and the placement of the cutouts is top notch. The sheet is also much thinner than others I have seen. I still can’t get enough of how great the cutout is.

Also, don’t forget to use the remainder of the serum still left in the pouch on your neck and chest!

I removed the mask after about 20 minutes. The mask was dry in a few areas, which is great because it is a visible sign that my skin really absorbed a lot of the product.

Pre-pat

Here is my face before I patted in the remaining serum. I didn’t have to pat in much because my skin absorbed a lot of it while the mask was still on.

Post-pat

You probably can’t tell a difference between the pre-pat photo and the post-pat one. That’s because, as I mentioned before, my skin absorbed a lot of it while the mask was on so there wasn’t much left to pat in.

All in all, I am super stoked about this mask! It has a lovely scent and an excellent cutout. It contains a lightweight, water-based serum that is easily absorbed by the skin. It left my face feeling soft and gently lifted, which makes sense as the bee venom promotes collagen production, which, in turn, promotes skin elasticity. I’m definitely going to be buying more when I go to Korea this fall.

Last but not least, as I’m sure you are all wondering: does this face mask sting? The simple answer is no! Not at all! This mask does not sting or burn whatsoever. If anything, it provides such a gentle cooling sensation that you barely feel at all. If you are sensitive to tingly masks, you may enjoy this one!

Thanks for tuning in to this week’s Face Mask Friday Sunday! I would love to know if you are interested in trying this product for yourself! If you’d like to see more face mask reviews, please feel free to follow my blog! I will be living in Korea for a year starting this August, which means more access to K-beauty sheet masks! I’ll also be travel blogging while I am there, so if you are interested in that, please subscribe!

Thank you so much for reading, and until next time,

Edit: I’m not sure how this product would react to those with bee/wasp sting allergies. I’ll ask the employees at a Skinfood store when I go to Korea in August and update this post when I find out!
