Happy New Year, everybody! Can you believe it? It’s finally 2017! I, for one, actually think that this year whizzed passed us – even Christmas came and went. Anyways, you know how the saying goes: “new year, new me!” A big part of that is the resolutions we make at the start of the new year, so I thought I would share with you all some of mine.
Here are ten things I’ve decided to put into practice with the new year. I think it would be interesting to look back on this at the end of the 2017 year and see how many of these I’ve actually tackled. Also, in case you’re wondering, the featured image at the top of this blog post is just the front cover of the notebook I’m using. It reads, “I love you to the moon and back.” Pretty cute, right?
For those of you who have a hard time sticking to your New Year’s resolutions, a tip I have for you is to be quantitative. For example, I’ve listed “be more active” as one of my resolutions, but if you are someone who tends to push things off until later in the year, you could write out your resolution as “work out ten minutes a day” or “do three sets of ten squat repetitions before going to bed every night.” See how listing out exactly what you need to do helps eliminate procrastination?
Another important thing to remember is to be honest with yourself. If you’re someone who wants to be more active during the new year but you don’t like exercising, having a resolution to sweat out one hour every day at the gym may not sound like a feasible task. Rather, it may put you off after a week or so. Instead, take baby steps. Start with something you think you can commit to for a whole year. Maybe that’s jogging for ten minutes in the morning before work, walking to school every Wednesday, or doing twenty sit-ups before bed. Start with what you know you can stick to and gradually build up. Go from walking to school once a week to twice a week or jogging ten minutes to fifteen minutes and then eventually to twenty. It’s always important to know yourself and be honest.
Last but not least, the final tip I have for you is to physically write out your resolutions and place that list somewhere where you will see it every day. Not only will this serve as a reminder to what your resolutions were halfway into the year but also hopefully give you motivation to keep going!
Let’s make 2017 a year for the books!
