My friends really hyped up my favorite highlighters post, so I figured I’d do another one — this time with lipsticks! While I absolutely love a good highlighter, lipsticks are, without a doubt, my go-to makeup product.
I have yellow undertones in my skin, so I tend to prefer warm colors. You may notice these lipsticks are more on the rosy, opaque side versus a natural nude. I do enjoy a pretty nude lip, but I usually go for more vibrant, richer shades. I feel like even if the rest of my face is bare, a good, rosy lip makes me look put together.
WAKEMAKE Rouge Gun Zero is my favorite formula when it comes to matte bullet lipsticks. It has a powdery matte finish with a formula that glides on. It isn’t drying and is super comfortable to wear. The shade above is 09 Mister Beige and is described as an elegant brick beige.
This next lipstick is also another WAKEMAKE Rouge Gun Zero. It’s the shade 11 Put Your Rose Up, which is described as a sophisticated rose red. It’s a brighter and more vibrant pink than 09 Mister Beige.
The third lipstick is also from WAKEMAKE, but this is from the brand’s Rouge Bomb Matte line. Although this is labeled as the matte line, the Rouge Gun Zero line has a more matte finish. The Rouge Bomb Matte lipsticks have a bit of sheen to them. While I prefer the finish of the Rouge Gun Zero line, the Rouge Bomb Matte lipsticks are still beautiful nonetheless. This particular one is in the shade 16 Corduroy Brown.
Too Faced Melted Matte lipstick in Gingerbread Man is a rich copper color with warm, rosy undertones in an ultra-matte formula. Not my favorite formula, but I do love the shade. When it comes to traditional liquid lipsticks, I prefer to blot it on with my fingers versus swiping it on with full opacity. For this reason, I typically like bullet lipsticks more than ones with doe foot applicators, but the Gingerbread Man shade is just so beautiful that I am willing to get my hands dirty.
Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks have a cult following, but to be honest, I don’t see the hype. It’s not a bad formula, but I don’t think it’s anything revolutionary; there are definitely better formulas out there. However, I can appreciate a good shade when I see one. Ashton is described as a mid-tone yellow brown, which I agree with but the description doesn’t do its hidden rose color any justice. As I mentioned above, I like to tap liquid lipsticks on with my finger. This technique reveals Ashton’s hidden color and transforms into a beautiful mid-tone rose.
The Colourpop Lux Liquid Lips are what, in my opinion, the Ultra Blotted Lips should be. I find the Ultra Blotted Lip to be way too drying and slightly patchy, but the Lux Liquid Lip is super smooth and wonderful for achieving a diffused matte effect. The formula isn’t drying at all and feels very plush. This particular one above is from the Colourpop Disney Designer Collection and is in the shade Prince Naveen, which is described as a burnt orange red.
On Cloud Dynasty is another Colourpop Lux Liquid Lip. It is described as a velvet deep brick red.
It’s a Banger is described as a velvet mid-tone crimson red. This shade is less brown and more pink than On Cloud Dynasty.
Of all the Colourpop Lippie Stix formulas, I highly prefer the Matte X formula. The Matte X formula is not as drying as the regular matte formula and has a more velvety feel and look that I prefer when it comes to matte lipsticks. The one above is in the shade Ziggie, which is described as a dark terracotta. Ziggie has strong brown tones.
Another Lippie Stix, Fly-fi is described as a red terracotta. Out of the four, Fly-fi is the most rosy beige.
Who Run This is described as a vibrant rusty red. It’s also rosy like Fly-fi but with more brick red-orange tones.
Love Life is described as a brownish brick red. This leans the closest to a true red out of the four.
This lipstick is quite unique in its thick formula. It’s like the Colourpop Lux Liquid Lip, only waxier and more opaque. I really like this formula as well since it glides on, wears comfortably, and is super opaque. Even when my lips are a little dry, it covers the dry spots nicely, feels very plush and isn’t patchy at all. One thing to note, however, is that it leaves a stain. This can be good or bad depending on your preference. I, personally, don’t mind.
While all the lipsticks so far have been labeled as matte formulas, this next one is a balm. Stila Nude Interlude Color Balm Lipstick in the shade Elyssa is described as brown berry and contains cooling peppermint oils. I prefer powdery matte finishes, but the sheerer balm formula works with this shade. I love tapping this on top of a lip tint (pairing this with Etude House Dear Darling Water Tint in Orange Ade is my favorite combo!) for a beautiful, dark, grungy look. It’s the perfect berry brown that doesn’t lean too purple.
Last but not least, I have to give it up for VOV Never Die Tint Ink in the shade RD01 Red Proof. While this isn’t a lipstick, I use this as a base whenever I wear a bold lip. This is so I have extra coverage in case the lipstick I have on top starts fading in the center. This super opaque, long-lasting red lip tint is a must have when it comes to bold lipsticks.
I feel like a little lipstick can really transform any look! A bit of lipstick definitely makes me look more put together and awake, so it’s my go-to makeup product when I need to rush out the door. I probably have more lipstick than any other makeup product in my collection. I definitely don’t need any more lipsticks, but you know I can’t resist new recommendations, so feel free to leave your personal favorites below. I’d love to hear from you!
