Galactomyces is one of my favorite skincare ingredients, so naturally, I have high hopes for this sheet mask.
Galactomyces is the bacteria involved in the fermentation process of certain alcohol, and I know what you’re probably thinking — why would anyone want to cover their face in bacteria? Allow me to explain: researchers noticed that people who work in those alcohol breweries had soft, supple, and youthful hands that contradicted their age and face. So, while their faces showed signs of aging such as wrinkles, their hands had minimal to no signs of aging at all. This led to the discovery that the galactomyces bacteria was preventing the visible aging of skin on their hands. Another reason why I love galactomyces is because I have particularly large pores on my face, and I find that the bacteria aids in reducing their appearance.
This mask doesn’t seem to list any claims (at least, in the English portion of the text) other than purifying and firming in the name. It does say to leave the mask on for 20-30 minutes though, which is longer than most other sheet masks say to leave on for. I typically end up leaving sheet masks on longer than the recommended time frame anyways, but be careful in doing so because leaving a sheet mask on for too long can actually have negative effects on your skin. Feel free to check out my other blog post to learn more about why you should never leave your sheet mask on for too long + how to properly incorporate them into your skincare routine.
To prep the skin, I cleansed my face using a foam cleanser and followed up with toner to further remove any debris the cleanser may have missed. I then spritzed my face with Caudalie Beauty Elixir to prep the skin for additional hydration. I also followed up with my normal nighttime routine of applying COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead and BHA Blackhead Power Liquids.
I’m not sure how I feel about the scent of this product. Don’t get me wrong — it smells lovely. It reminds me of the brand Clean’s Warm Cotton from their Reserve line, which smells like fresh laundry. I absolutely love the scent itself, but it makes me lowkey feel like I’m putting on laundry detergent when I’m using this mask. Just a heads up if you’re sensitive to scents!
At first, I wasn’t impressed with the cutout because the eyes aren’t completely cut out; however, the more I’ve used this mask, the more I’ve come to appreciate how I can fold the little flaps to better fit my face and eye shape. This is especially true after I went back to using sheet masks with the eyes completely cut out. I started wishing more sheet masks cut the eyes into flaps instead of removing completely.
All in all, I think this is a gentle, non-irritating mask that might be a nice daily-use mask for even those with sensitive skin; however, if I’m being honest, I can’t say I’m in love with it. It was a pleasant experience, but nothing to write home about. A nice sheet mask but I can’t help wanting to try other over repurchasing.
