Welcome back, friends! Today, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Juvia’s Place The Zulu palette as well as some swatches. I recently reviewed the Afrique palette by the same brand, and unfortunately, that palette was less than stellar. Hopefully, this palette is much better in pigmentation and quality.
Here is a picture of the outer packaging design. The palette is constructed of cardboard and features a bright white background with a colorful center image and palette name.
The pans in this palette are actually very big. It includes six matte shades and three shimmer shades. Unlike the other palettes that I’ve had a chance to try out from Juvia’s Place, this one does not list the shade names underneath each color.
The swatches above are from a single swipe with no primer or any other product underneath. As you can see, the yellow shade it quite weak when it comes to pigmentation. It’s hard to get the yellow color out of the pan. The other shades have good pigment, albeit not as rich as Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows. The pigment is indeed buildable if you want a striking, bold pop of color, but they definitely need a light eyeshadow base underneath to achieve that. On the eyes, I noticed that the color muted out a bit when blended with no white base underneath. Also, do note that the shimmers are a little on the frosty side.
In conclusion, I think this palette performs a lot better than the Afrique palette by the same brand. I’m slightly sad that the yellow in this palette isn’t as pigmented as the rest because I mainly picked this up for the yellow and orange. I was hoping the yellow would be closer to what I was looking for in the Colourpop Uh-huh Honey palette, but the lack of pigmentation in that one shade is a bit disappointing. I really don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this since it’s such a colorful palette and I don’t really go for such bright colors, but I’m hoping to play around with them more to create some wearable looks. Although this palette features many different colors, I think the looks that can be created with just this one palette are limited to a single type of aesthetic. While the quality of the eyeshadows, minus the yellow shade, are nice, I don’t think there is enough of a variety in here to make this a one and done palette for everyone.
What are your thoughts on the Zulu palette from Juvia’s Place? Is the color story your aesthetic or something you can pass on? For me, it’s not exactly my aesthetic but I just wanted to try out something different from the usual colors that I go for, and this is certainly that.
Thank you so much for reading, and until next time,
