As I’m sure everyone knows, cucumbers are great for cooling and depuffing the skin. They are also good for soothing skin irritations. When I think of cucumber skincare, I immediately think of two things: cucumber massages and spa facials. I think about the scene in movies where a character is at a spa getting a facial, has a face mask on with a cucumber slice over each eye. I also recall doing a lot of cucumber massages when I was younger. After a long day outside during the summer, my mother would slice cucumbers to apply all over the face and arms (we also used potatoes if the sunburns were really bad). Koreans call this sliced cucumber facial a cucumber massage.
A bunch of sliced cucumbers can get a bit messy, so it’s nice to have a sheet mask option. Sheet masks are a quick and easy way to deliver goodness into the skin but not all sheet masks are the same. There have definitely been disappointing sheet masks I’ve tried in the past as well as ones that have been game changers for me. There are also differences in formula, consistency, and finish, to name a few. I’ll be going over this mask’s feel, performance, and final finish in this review.
Holika Holika say that this product is “a moisturizing sheet [that] provides moisture to skin and keeps it hydrated with cucumber extract.” I love how the package as an easy open tab that makes opening up the entire package possible.
As you can see, this sheet is super thin. It also felt very soft and nice. The only thing I would be mindful of is that it was a little hard to lay the sheet completely flat on the area between my eyes due to the cutout. It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen though. Some adjusting helped, but the sheet was still a little too close to my eyes for comfort.
The essence is indeed watery and is moderately cooling. It has a scent that I’m not too fond of. Nothing I would call bad but also not something I would call good. It lingers a little bit after applying the sheet to the face, but it dissipates in a few minutes.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with this mask! It’s super gentle on the skin and is the cooling factor isn’t too powerful. It does leave a bit of an oil finish, but it doesn’t feel very oily because most of it pushes into the skin after patting in the essence. Definitely a testament to its moisturizing claims. I think this mask would be a good daily option for anyone, including those with sensitive skin. It delivers a decent amount of hydration and moisture, all the while feeling light on the face.
