Gotta love free sheet mask samples!
For those who don’t know what makgeolli is, makgeolli (막걸리) is Korean rice wine. This fermented, alcoholic beverage is full of probiotics, vitamins, and minerals that also translate into the beauty world. This Makgeolli Brightening Mask Sheet from Holika Holika contains makgeolli extract rich in minerals, vitamins, and enzymes that work to keep skin bright and clear.
This sheet mask has an interesting combination of scents. What comes to mind is fabric softener meets expensive perfume meets alcoholic drink. It does last during application. The mask provides a strong cooling sensation, which may be a little too much if you have any cuts on the face. It stung a tiny bit on the raw skin around my nose, but the stinging stopped after about two minutes. If you have any harsher cuts or large areas of raw skin, this may be a bit painful due to the strong cooling factor. As for the cutout, I had a little chuckle to myself because the sheet doesn’t cover the bottom third of my nose. Even considering all the pretty bad sheet mask cutouts I’ve experienced, this one was a first.
When I first removed the sheet, I was shocked at how red my face was. I wondered if Asian glow also works topically because of how red my face was. I figured this would work better as a nighttime mask due to the redness, but the redness went away quickly after patting in the remaining essence. The essence fully absorbs into the skin with ease and leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth, and with a bit of suppleness as well. I’m not too sure about the brightening claims, but it seems to do a nice job of delivering nutrients while softening skin texture.
