Calendula: the skincare ingredient that made waves a few years ago and is still going strong.
Did you know that Etude House recently changed its name to Etude? Etude House rebranded itself from its cutesy and girly positioning to a more sophisticated Etude. To be honest, I think the name Etude House sounds better, but maybe that’s because I’ve only known it as Etude House for years and years. Etude House is pretty much a household name in the Korean beauty industry, so it feels weird knowing that it’s now just Etude. Even though Koreans have been referring to the brand as “Etude” for short for a while now, it feels completely different knowing that it’s not just the shortened form of Etude House but the actual, full name now. What are your thoughts on the rebranding?
Anyways, I’ll be referring to the brand as Etude House in this post since that’s what’s written on the label as my friend gifted me this mask before the rebrand.
This calendula sheet mask soothes and provides radiance to the skin through a jelly oil essence formula. It is part of Etude House’s 0.2mm Therapy Air Mask line that boasts a low-irritant, breathable sheet that comfortably adheres to skin. Etude House claims this mask is free of seven harmful ingredients and good for daily use. The essence has a super light scent that is pretty much undetectable once on the face. It’s a nice, clean scent, nothing heavily floral. The mask felt cool to the touch, and the cooling effects lasted throughout use.
I recommend using this mask after hydrating since it is a jelly oil formula. Using a water-based hydrator before use will help your skin absorb more water and nutrients, while the jelly oil essence from this sheet mask will help keep that hydration locked in (read my hydrating vs. moisturizing post for more information and skincare tips regarding this!). The essence does absorb into the skin albeit a bit slowly since it’s an oil formula. It doesn’t feel heavy, which is a plus because I’m not a fan of oil-based products just sitting on top of the skin and making my face super greasy.
As for the soothing and skin radiance claims, I do agree with it but to a certain extent. The effects are subtle, but it makes sense when you consider that this mask is low-irritant, good for sensitive skin, and suggested for daily use. I personally prefer water-based sheet masks over oil-based ones, but I think this jelly oil formula was quite nice for an oil-based product. If you’re looking for a gentle, moisturizing sheet mask, consider checking this one out!
