Etude House 0.2mm Therapy Air Mask Ceramide Review

Hi, friends! Welcome to the second Face Mask Friday of this month! During the month of December, I’ll be focusing on moisturizing face masks. Last week, I reviewed the Damask rose face mask from the same brand. Today’s key ingredient is ceramide, which is a lipid molecule that helps create a moisture barrier to keep your skin healthy and happy by keeping moisture in and pollution out. Etude House claims that this “daily low-irritant mask made of breathable 0.2mm air sheet effectively delivers 7-free essence to your skin” and that it “relieves skin’s thirst, moisturizes dry skin by providing abundant moisture and by strengthening skin’s moisture barrier.”

Ceramide has been gaining a lot of popularity in Korean skincare these last several years. Ceramide creams are especially popular the winter in South Korea, during which the temperature drops far below freezing, winds are harsh, and the air is extremely dry.

This mask is actually an emulsion-type essence, which means that the solution is a bit thicker than water-type essences. I generally prefer water-type essence masks so I wasn’t sure if I would like this mask, but as I’ll elaborate more below, this emulsion-type essence actually felt more watery than oily and was quick to absorb into the skin.

Cleansed face with toner

The above photo is my cleansed face with a layer of toner. I used a chemical exfoliator before cleansing my face as well. Thanks to the peel, my face is free of dry and dead skin, but as you can see, my skin looks quite flat. There isn’t much of a glow there, and while my skin doesn’t look crusty, it could use a boost.

Photo of sheet mask after 15 minutes

The photo above was taken about 15 minutes after I put it on. The instructions say to leave it for 20 minutes, but I decided to take it off after 15 minutes because the sheet was already drying out. One thing to know about sheet masks is that you should never leave it on overnight because it counteracts the moisturizing effects. As your skin absorbs the serum or essence of the sheet mask, the sheet dries out (because your skin is taking the moisture away from it and absorbing it). The now dry sheet will then suck out the moisture from your skin leaving it super dry and causing it to secrete excess sebum. As you can see in the above photo, the mask was already drying by the 15 minute mark. I’ve never ever had to remove a mask before instructed time, so I was very pleasantly surprised. I was quite impressed with how fast and easily the mask solution absorbed into my skin. Oh, and there was a faint cooling sensation that felt quite nice.

Post mask before patting in remaining essence

Even immediately after removing the mask, my skin didn’t have a super thick layer of excess essence, which is typical of most sheet masks. Instead, this mask’s essence was so easily absorbed into the skin that there wasn’t a bunch of serum just left on top. I could visibly see how well my skin absorbed the product.

After I removed the sheet mask, my skin felt absolutely supple and smooth, almost like all my pores and lines were filled in. It did take one to two minutes to pat in the excess essence but it completely soaked in. I could not believe how great my skin felt after using this mask. I usually only post one final result photo in the reviews, but I loved how my skin looked afterwards that I included three here. That’s how good it is. My skin felt matte, but there was an undeniable glow from the mask.

The only thing that wasn’t as great was the cutout. It certainly wasn’t bad by any means, but it did overlap around the circumference. I did have to adjust little bits here and there, but they were quick and easy fixes. Oh, and I’m not sure if it’s because it is an emulsion-type essence but the sheet felt slightly thicker than the other 0.2mm Therapy Air Masks that I’ve tried.

I was so impressed with this mask, and I will definitely stock up on these the next time I go shopping in Korea. It really helped my skin look and feel incredible, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Thanks so much for reading this review! Just as a reminder, I’m posting every day until the 25th of this month in the spirit of blogmas, and each Friday this month will feature a moisturizing face mask. Stay tuned for more face mask reviews!
