Hello, friends! I recently signed up for a six-month subscription to BoxyCharm! I’m registered for the base box and currently still on the waitlist for BoxyCharm Premium. The only subscription box I’ve ever purchased before was Sephora Play! so I’m super excited to be receiving full-sized products with BoxyCharm. Unfortunately, I was unable to receive the free Tarte gift for new subscribers because the code I had wouldn’t work, and I eventually gave up in frustration only to find out that BoxyCharm changes the code frequently even for the same item. I’m not sure if BoxyCharm intentionally does this to be stingy, but I’m a bit sad I was unable to get it. However, I’m still excited for everything BoxyCharm has to offer starting with this year’s November box!
For those of you who have never heard of BoxyCharm, it is a monthly beauty subscription box featuring five full-sized products. It costs $25 per box and is valued at over $125. If you’d like to receive more products of luxury status, you can choose to upgrade from BoxyCharm to BoxyLuxe, which costs $49.99 quarterly. BoxyLuxe, unlike BoxyCharm, is a quarterly box, so for example, if you have a year’s subscription to BoxyLuxe, you would receive the base box in September, October, and November and the luxe box in December. You would only be charged $25 for the months you receive the base box, and $25+$24.99 the months you received the luxe box. BoxyLuxe features both beauty and lifestyle products with at least eight products valued at a total of over $275. BoxyCharm, the brand, also offers a premium box known as BoxyCharm Premium, which costs an additional $35 and is also shipped monthly. This box features six to seven full-sized beauty products valued at a total of at least $175. BoxyCharm Premium is an additional subscription, meaning if you are approved for BoxyCharm Premium, you will need to be subscribed to either the BoxyCharm base box or BoxyLuxe in conjunction to your BoxyCharm Premium subscription. You cannot subscribe to just BoxyCharm Premium. Whichever tier you choose, everyone has access to choice, customization, add-ons, BoxyPopUp, and rewards. BoxyCharm and BoxyCharm Premium subscribers can select one item of their choosing between two products selected by BoxyCharm. BoxyLuxe subscribers are allowed to choose up to three items. BoxyCharm, the brand, also has a beauty quiz on their website so subscribers can select their product and shade preferences to receive products better suited to their tastes. Add-ons are additional products subscribers can select and purchase at discounted prices that will ship with their next month’s box. BoxyPopUp refers to a limited time sale on BoxyCharm’s website that features many popular products at heavily slashed prices. Last but not least, subscribers can earn rewards by leaving reviews of the products they received in their boxes to collect charms, which can then be used to purchase products that will ship with their next box. Many of these features are new to BoxyCharm, and BoxyLuxe and BoxyCharm Premium subscribers have first dibs.
Whew, that was a lot of information! It’s a lot, but I still wanted to leave that information here in case anyone was interested in BoxyCharm. The first item I got was the Celestial Thunder palette from Dominique Cosmetics. I’ve never tried Dominique Cosmetics before, so I was curious to see what the formula was like. After poking around the Internet, I found out that Dominique Cosmetics actually has another similar palette called Celestial Storm, which features all the colors in the Celestial Thunder palette plus four extra. I kinda wish BoxyCharm offered the Celestial Storm palette so I could try out the other shades, too. I think the font on the outer packaging is absolutely brilliant and looks super cool. As for the product itself, I think it has a cool color story that I think would be fun for a pop of color, but it’s definitely not a palette I’ll reach for often. The formula is not my favorite as I think the pigmentation could have been better.
The next item I got is a liquid lipstick from Dose of Colors in the shade Date Night. What’s cool about this liquid lipstick is that there are four variations for the November 2019 box and all four shades were created especially for BoxyCharm. I’ll be honest, I finally took the plunge on BoxyCharm because I saw that they were including either a Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed or Dose of Colors liquid lipstick in all of the base boxes for the November box. I really wanted the Becca highlighter and was a little sad at first when I saw that I did not get it, but now, I’m actually kind of glad I got the Dose of Colors product instead because I already have the two highlight shades being offered. I just wanted a back up, which I now realize is kind of silly seeing as I have so many highlighters to go through. I’m pretty happy with the shade of lipstick, too. Date Night is a nice, vivid red with a cool undertone. Since it has a cool undertone, I don’t think it’s a shade I’ll reach for often but is nice to have for when I feel like sporting a bright holiday lip.
Although I didn’t get the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed, I did get a different highlighter. I received the Milk Makeup Holographic Stick in the shade Supernova, but since it’s a very cool-toned product, I’ll be passing this on to someone who may appreciate it more than me.
I also received the Kypris Antioxidant Dew Quench & Glow Serum. This is the most expensive item in this box at $90. It says this item was made exclusively for BoxyCharm, which I’m sure how I feel about to be honest. I kind of feel like the $90 price tag was just slapped on to make it seem more expensive and luxurious than it really is, especially since it’s made exclusively for BoxyCharm. Just kind of seems like it was done to make the overall value of the box seem greater than it really is. However, I did enjoy testing out the serum. It seemed to absorb into the skin well, so I’ll be using this product with an open mind.
Another skincare product I received is the Haruharu Wonder Maqui Berry Anti-oxidant Mask trio. I actually only received two in my box and didn’t realize it was a trio until I logged into my BoxyCharm account and checked out the November 2019 box page. I emailed the BoxyCharm team just now, so hopefully they get back to me. I’m not super concerned about it though since I still received two to try out, but since I technically paid for it, I guess it would be nice to get the third mask even if it’s shipped out in my December box to save on shipping fees and material. I haven’t tried this mask yet, but I look forward to testing it out in a future review.
Lastly, I received a little sample card of the Becca Ultimate Coverage 24 Hour Foundation with three shades to test out for the complexion quiz on BoxyCharm’s website. This is to help BoxyCharm send good product matches in the future. I also received an information card with all the products and prices as well as a couple discount codes for different beauty brands.
In my first ever BoxyCharm, I received the Dominique Cosmetics Celestial Thunder eyeshadow palette ($35), a Dose of Colors liquid lipstick ($18), the Holographic Stick ($28) from Milk Makeup, the Kypris Antioxidant Dew Quench & Glow Serum ($90), and the Haruharu Wonder Maqui Berry Anti-oxidant Mask trio ($9 but I only received two so technically $6). The total value of my box was $180 ($177 if you exclude the missing item), which I think is pretty great for $25. What do you think?
