Hello, friends! Welcome to the first official, non-announcement post of the new decade! This month, I’ll be unboxing not only one BoxyCharm box but a total of three BoxyCharm boxes. Why, you ask? Well, on top of my base box, I finally made it off the waitlist for BoxyCharm Premium, which will be unboxed tomorrow! I also bought the December 2019 FOMO box simply because I wanted the free Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes palette. I have yet to receive that box, but I thought it would be fun to contrast the base, premium, and FOMO boxes. Anyways, that was just a little sneak peek into what’s to come. Let’s unbox!
This month’s theme is “breaking the ice.” I received the first variation and was able to choose one item during the BoxyCharm choice window.
The first item is the Too Faced Diamond Light highlighter in Canary Diamond. My first choice would have been the Diamond Fire shade, but BoxyCharm did not include that shade. I would have preferred the Fancy Pink shade, which is a lighter pink, over the Canary Diamond color, but I think I could use it during the summer and on the eyes. While swatching, I noticed that using a light, fluffy brush just leaves specks of glitter whereas a dense buffing brush creates a beautiful shine.
The next product in the box is the Vintage Dawn eyeshadow palette from Ace Beaute. This palette is the choice item I selected. There are twelve colors in here, and the color story is just absolutely stunning. I played around with the shadows a bit, and unfortunately, I don’t think I’m a big fan of the formula. Of course, I still need to try them out with different brushes and actually do a full look before I give my final verdict. You can expect to see a review of this soon!
Next, there is the Wander Beauty Trip for Two Blush and Bronzer Duo. Unfortunately, I don’t see myself ever using this product because the colors are just too cool-toned for me. I selected peachy blushes in my BoxyCharm beauty quiz, so I’m not sure why these colors were sent to me (I liked the last box’s blush but that was also not peachy). Since I know I won’t ever reach for this product, I won’t be testing this. Instead, I’ll be passing this along to someone who will better appreciate it.
OK, so this next product is a bit of an up and down for me. I was misinformed by a BoxyCharm sneak peek account that everyone would be receiving the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow sleeping mask, but when I opened the box, there was no Glow Recipe mask. Instead, I got the Avant 8 Hour Radiance Renewal Sleeping Mask. I don’t mind this product, but I can’t say I’m not a little disappointed from not receiving the Glow Recipe mask. In a way, though, it’s neat that I got this one because the retail value is much higher than the Glow Recipe mask, so I can try out a product I normally wouldn’t have purchased on my own. That’s the beauty of BoxyCharm!
Last but not least, we have the Manna Kadar Beauty Lip Whip. This seems like a filler item to me purely based on the packaging. Personally, I don’t think plastic shrink wrap makes a product look of high quality. I’m not a big fan of the color, so I’m going to also pass this on to somebody else.
All in all, I’d say this box was fine, but I definitely prefer last month’s box over this one. I was really happy with three items in last month’s box versus two items in this month’s box that I’m happy with but have some reservations on due to either quality or color. I’m super stoked about the Too Faced highlighter, but I don’t see myself reaching for it often simply because it’s not a color I would typically use for highlighter. The Ace Beaute Vintage Dawn palette has such a beautiful color story that really speaks to me, but I’m not sure if I like the formula. Of course, that’s kind of the gamble when it comes to subscription boxes – you never really know what you’re going to get and if you will even like what’s inside. I’d say I’m satisfied with what I got for $25 though. Overjoyed? No, but I’m satisfied (although I think if I had received the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow sleeping mask, I’d be a little more than satisfied with my box. I wonder if I should update my beauty quiz).
Hope you liked today’s unboxing of the January 2020 BoxyCharm base box! I’ll be sharing what I got in the premium box tomorrow, so stay tuned for that! Have a wonderful rest of your day!
Love,
