Becca Prismatic Amethyst Swatches

Hello everyone! Welcome back! It’s been a while since I’ve done a makeup post, hasn’t it? It’s been mostly face mask reviews for a while; plus, I didn’t do a favorites post last month either (a January/February favorites post will be coming soon!). However, today, I’ll be kicking things off with a first look at the Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in the newest shade Prismatic Amethyst and sharing some swatches with you all. Let’s begin!

My beautiful Sephora order finally came in the mail!

I was stumbling across the Internet on Valentine’s Day morning when I saw that Becca dropped a new highlighter shade on Sephora’s website. Turns out that the shade just released that day. What luck, right? Anyways, as I was looking for swatches online, I didn’t notice too many pictures so I thought that it would be great to buy and share with you all.

Side note: the holographic packaging is so amazing but makes it somewhat hard to read the words on the box!

I’ve been really interested in duo-chrome, holographic highlighters for a few months now but couldn’t really justify dropping the dough on the Anastasia Moonchild glow kit so I suppressed my urge to buy. Then, Kat Von D released her beautiful Alchemist palette, which only made my interest in holographic highlighters spark back up. I actually have my eye on the Kat Von D Alchemist palette, but I’m waiting on Sephora’s VIB sale in the spring to pounce on that. I probably won’t need the Becca highlighter if I get the Kat Von D palette since the palette includes a purple shade, but one can never have too many highlighters, right?

Special packaging: mirror lavender circumference

Sephora’s website describes this limited edition product as a “creamy, highlighting powder with duo-chrome pigments to impart a captivating light effect that transforms as you move” and is “enriched with color-shifting pigments that reflect and refract light for a multi-faceted, holographic chameleon effect. Prismatic Amethyst is infused with pale gold, violet, and rose pearls to create a unique, iridescent sheen that shifts as you move.” Just by reading the description, I’m guessing that this is a purple highlighter that breaks pink. Let’s see if I’m right:

On first look, it looks almost like a white with a hint of lavender. It’s got that beautiful geometric pattern pressed onto it as with other limited edition Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed highlighters. Plus, I think how the mirror and the silver lavender packaging look like they are seamlessly connected is so cool!

For swatches, I’ll be showing you finger swatches and also a brush swatch using the Sigma High Cheekbone Highlighter F03 brush.

Left to right: brush, finger (blended), finger (not blended)

As you can tell, the blended finger swatches shows up as more of a natural sheen, whereas the brush swatch is more of a disco ball. I think that shows the versatility of the product and the capability to be tailored to whatever intensity you prefer. Also, you can probably tell why the Sigma High Cheekbone Highlighter F03 brush is my favorite to highlight. The finish it produces is unreal.

Here is Prismatic Amethyst in comparison to the other Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed shades:

I left Blushed Copper back at home so I wasn’t able to picture it here, but hopefully you still find the comparison swatches helpful! The other Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed shades are definitely shimmery, whereas Prismatic Amethyst is more of a sheen. I know the swatch just looks white, but when I tried to blend it out to show more of the purple reflects, it wouldn’t show up in pictures at all.

Going on that, the cool thing about this highlighter is that it seems like it completely disappears in certain angles and shows the amethyst reflects in others.

This post wouldn’t be complete without a few (maybe more) selfies!

The collage above is the product applied with the Sigma High Cheekbone Highlighter F03 brush. Sorry my camera isn’t picking up the amethyst reflects very well, but as you can see, the product gives off a beautiful lit-from-within glow.

Here is the product applied with the same brush but with MAC Fix+ spritzed on as well, which really amplified the sheen intensity. You can see the amethyst reflects slightly better here.

Final thoughts: I really like this highlighter! I think this is a great winter highlighter. The amethyst reflects give off a romantic wintry ambiance. It reminds me of the Tonymoly Crystal Light highlighter in the shade Gold Beam, which is one of my favorite liquid highlighters (might even be at the very top). Both give off that romantic ambiance from the pink-purple, lit-from-within glow.

The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Prismatic Amethyst is currently available online at Sephora.com for VIB and VIB Rouge members. It will be sold on the Becca website on February 22 and in Sephora stores in March.
